Towns we dispatch to from Guilford
Each town has its own page, written from its own water, sewer, housing and flood records.
Madison, CT
ZIP 06443. Next town east, on Long Island Sound. No public sewer, so homes run on septic with a five-year pump-out rule, and homes north of Interstate 95 rely on private wells.
Branford, CT
ZIP 06405. Next town west. Most residences are on the town sewer, and about 46 percent of homes were built before 1970.
North Branford, CT
ZIP 06471 and 06472. Inland, with Northford as its own ZIP code. Most of town relies on wells, and about 35 percent of developed properties are sewered.
Clinton, CT
ZIP 06413. Two towns east, in Middlesex County. No public sewer, and the town documents the flood history of its beach neighborhoods.
Guilford, the home base
Guilford was settled in 1639, and its 2010 Census population was 22,375 according to the town's plan of conservation and development. The town's ZIP code is 06437. Interstate 95 serves it with Exits 57, 58 and 59, and the Boston Post Road, Route 77 and Route 146 run through it.
Two facts shape most Guilford plumbing calls. First, the town has no municipal sewers. The health department says sewage disposal is on-site, and every septic system must be pumped every five years. Second, public water comes from Connecticut Water's Guilford System, while some shoreline neighborhoods were on individual wells when the town studied them in 2011. Our drain cleaning and sewer line cleaning pages explain how those facts change a service call.
Neighborhoods and villages inside Guilford
Inside Guilford we serve the town center around the Green and the villages and shoreline communities beyond it. The Guilford Preservation Alliance describes North Guilford as a village north of the Green, with Guilford Lakes, a vacation-home development around three lakes created in 1929, and Nut Plains as a road and area of 19th-century houses.
On the shore, Sachem's Head, Leete's Island, Shell Beach and Indian Cove began as summer colonies, and Old Quarry is a post-war residential road on the Point. Houses that began as seasonal cottages can have supply lines in unheated crawlspaces. If you live in one of them, ask the plumber to check the pipes that run outside the heated space, and read our notes on burst pipe repair.
